When the summer heats up, just walking outside will work up a sweat.  Of course you can not do anything about the temperature outside, you can keep the kids cool by serving up some great tasting frozen drinks.  Water is always the best option for quenching thirst, but for children, adding in some great tasting fruits and juices will  satisfy their sweet tooth in a healthy way and provide much needed hydration. So instead of heading down the the local quick stop or dairy bar and purchasing ready made drinks that are packed with sugar, lets make them at home.  Making the drinks at home is easy and the whole family can get involved.  Here are some simple recipes to get you started making great tasting frozen drinks for kids.

Raspnana

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup Raspberries
  • 1 Frozen Banana 
  • 1 cup Orange Juice

Add the fruit and juice to a blender and blend until smooth.  Makes one serving.

tip: peel banana before freezing

Strawberry-Banana Slushy

  • 6 Frozen Strawberries
  • 1 Frozen Banana
  • 1 cup Apple Juice

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.  You may add other frozen fruits or substitute different juices.  Add more or less juice to get the desired consistency.

Tropical Cooler

  • 1 cup Mango Slices
  • Splash of White Grape Juice
  • 4 Scoops Vanilla Frozen Yogurt

Combine ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.  Makes one serving.

Orange Dreamsicle

  • 1 cup Orange Juice
  • 4 Scoops Vanilla Frozen Yogurt

Combine ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Makes one serving.

If you use your imagination I am sure you can come up with brand new frozen drink ideas.  All you need is some fruit and a blender or frozen drink maker and you are on your way to a great summer time frozen drink.
